PACIFIC JUNIOR CURLING CHAMPS

The 21st Pacific Junior Curling Champs are being held in Naseby, New Zealand throughout January 2011.  Mens and Womens teams from China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand will compete for the overall title of Pacific Junior Champion.  The top 2 qualifying teams will also compete in the Junior World Championships in Perth, Scotland later in the year.  All team members are 21 and under, with some as young as 14! 

The Korean Junior Mens team come from the Gyeonggi curling club and share nearly 30 years curling experience between them.  The Junior Womens team are from the same city and were placed 2nd in the 2010 Junior Pacific Curling Champs.

From Japan, the Junior Women are all from Hokkaido Curling Club and the Men are from Karuizawa, Miyota and Kitami clubs.  All of them are students except for one professional fisherman! 

Both the mens and womens teams from China (including coaches) herald from Harbin Curling Club. Members from both teams placed first in the 2010 PJCC's - they are a team to watch.

All the men and women in the Australian teams play for the Queensland Curling Club.  Their occupations and hobbies are varied inlcuding a member of the Australian Defence Froce who enjoys Dragon Boat racing!

The New Zealand Junior womens team are all student from the Auckland Curling Club.  Their hobbies include table tennis, dog grooming & canoe polo!  The New Zealand Junior Men are all from Central Otago including 3 local Maniototo men.  All 5 are also keen rugby players.

Spectators are most welcome to view the event from our warm viewing lounge (gold coin donation entry).
